I am currently an American, living abroad in France during this monumental American election. My name is Shelby Lofton, and I have lived in America my whole life, up until now.
I am 20 years old, which makes me a part of the younger generation, one which has become surprisingly influential in the progress of the election and candidates so far. I am a current college student, and I plan to become a lawyer, which also means that the political state of America is of particular concern to me, as this does affect which laws are passed and how current law is interpreted.
This is my first time living abroad during a presidential election in my country, and it has been interesting how many French people have asked me questions about it. That is why I am excited to be working with the French-American Center on communicating information about the election and sharing lived experiences of Americans pertaining to the election to French people in the French language. Sharing accurate and informative material on the American election will ease the process through which French people can educate themselves on current events abroad.
Furthermore, as any American would, I have my own political opinions and personal stake in the results of the upcoming election, and I believe it is important that the people of France accurately understand how the results of the election may affect them and their country as well.
